Impacting Lives: Schoolchildren are trained at Mónica Liyau’s First Table Tennis Talent Recruitment Center

Thanks to the management of the Mónica Liyau Association, the Ping Pong 2020 summer season began with great success at the First Table Tennis Talent Recruitment Center located in the city of Chincha in Ica, where sports qualities are being promoted and developed. more than 60 children daily.

The talent recruitment center makes it possible to discover and identify children with potential conditions for practicing this sport so that in the future they can represent the country in competitions such as the Pan-American or Olympic Games.

As part of the program, in 2019, Danna Mendoza (11) and Diego Arcos (11) traveled to Brazil to train thanks to the first sports scholarship that was awarded. In February of this year, 9 children from Lima, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Piura and Ica who belong to the second promotion of sports scholarships will travel to Argentina to train in high-performance table tennis centers.

“The goal is to have a talent recruitment center in each region where we are, to date we are present in 13 regions of Peru and we are very clear about how crucial sport is in the acquisition of skills for learning and education. of the boys ”, indicated Mónica Liyau, director of the Impactando Vidas Program.

It is important to highlight that Impactando Vidas is a social program of the Mónica Liyau Association that aims to promote the practice of table tennis in the best conditions among children and adolescents of national schools in Peru and include it as part of the physical education curriculum within the framework of the agreement with the Ministry of Education and the Peruvian Institute of Sports.

For the success of the program, ping pong tables are installed in schools so that children can practice sports, sports equipment is delivered, physical education teachers are trained, seedlings are formed and equipment is selected with a view to South American school sports games.

To date, more than 150 thousand schoolchildren have benefited through an empowerment model that combines three factors: Emotional, Social and Educational, where table tennis serves as the basis to instill learning and integral development through daily habits in the practice of this sport.

According to a survey of teachers, 92% stated that students who are part of the program have significantly improved self-esteem. Likewise, 80% of these indicate that students’ motivation also increased considerably, which is very positive for their disposition in class and 76% value the improvement in concentration levels.

Finally, it can be said that it is aligned with 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDG): Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduction of inequalities, Strategic alliances. Very important aspects for the development of our country.
