Impacting lives: the program that seeks to improve the lives of children with ping pong

Impacting lives

As Liyau explained: “Impacting Lives seeks to give children the opportunity to transform their lives. We are aimed at a vulnerable population, boys and girls from public schools in Peru. Today we are already impacted the lives of almost 150 thousand children in more than 12 of the 24 regions of Peru ”.

Table tennis is one of the sports that most develops children’s brains. He explained that the ball in motion reaches a speed of almost 200 km per hour; so it develops vision with the upper and lower limbs and the brain. This coordination makes children learn to read faster and understand texts more easily.

This program of sports massification with social inclusion seeks recreational practice through ping pong. This sport is a mandatory part of the physical education curriculum in the 80,000 schools where the program has arrived, thanks to the cooperation agreement between the Monica Liyau Association and the Ministry of Education.

Impacting Lives has managed, to date, to make 400 concrete tables nationwide in more than 100 public schools. Likewise, it has delivered more than 7,500 rackets and 10,000 balls.

Trip to brazil

Given the success of Impacting Lives, this year, Mónica traveled with 8 children from different provinces of Peru to Brazil. In this country – which is a world power – children trained twice a day in high-performance stadiums.

“We want to replicate the experience these boys lived, not only once a year, but constantly. The vision that they have of life now is completely different, “he said.
